Privacy notice
What we collect, why, who sees it and how long we keep it. Short, because there is not much to say.
Who we are
The Bike Box Company is a trading name of Bike Box Hire UK Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17395115. Registered office: 128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. We are the data controller. Email hello@thebikeboxcompany.com with any question about your data.
What we collect and why
- Orders: your name, email, phone number, delivery address and what you bought, to fulfil the order, send confirmations and tracking, handle returns and warranty claims, and keep the accounting records the law requires. Legal basis: performing our contract with you, and our legal obligations.
- Payment: card payments are taken by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Stripe's own privacy notice applies to the payment.
- Email sign-up: if you ask to be told when the shop opens, we keep your email address for that one message and delete it afterwards unless you have placed an order. Legal basis: consent, which you can withdraw by replying "stop".
- Your basket: stored in your own browser, not on our servers, until you check out.
- Site use: we use analytics to see which pages are used and where the site breaks. This is aggregated and not used to identify you.
Who else sees it
Where a product is sent to you direct by its maker, we pass the maker your name, delivery address and phone number so the carrier can deliver; nothing else. Our systems run on Vercel, Supabase (database), Resend (email) and Stripe (payments), all of which process data on our instructions. We do not sell or rent your details to anyone.
How long we keep it
Order records for six years after the order, because tax law requires it. Sign-up emails until we have sent the opening email. Analytics for 12 months.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, or complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. Email us first and we will usually sort it the same day.
Cookies
The basket and your cookie choice live in your browser's local storage. Staff who preview the shop before it opens get one cookie that says so. Analytics may set a cookie to tell one visit from another. None of these are advertising cookies.
